Ather Energy is on a mission to protect the planet and how!
- Designed a new-age brand with a commitment to influence social consciousness, ozone-friendly environment, and commercial sustainability
- Ather Energy is the first brand in India, second only to the global class of Tesla to publish a first impact report.
All The Scoop On The First Impact Report
The intent of an impact report is to offer a detailed analysis of the difference to the ecosystem that the company endeavors to create.
Mastering the precepts of EV, India’s original intelligent electric scooter manufacturer, Ather Energy has published its first Impact Report. Here is a brand giving us transparency with a comprehensive overview of its social, environmental, and economic impact between 2019-2020. To expand upon its social consciousness cornerstone the company conducted its impact assessment through Aspire Impact; an organization known for its social enterprise focused on the influence of leadership & its bearing upon the development of the ecosystem. Further, Ather was put through the paces of a wholesome assessment conducted through 250+ impact metrics, an Aspire Impact’s proprietary 4P framework. Ather then went on to be awarded Aspire Impact’s Gold Leaf accreditation for its comprehensive impact Management. Please note, Ather Energy is the first in India and only the second automotive company in the global scenario, besides Tesla, to announce an Impact report.
Ather Development and Sustainability
Running a marathon at full throttle, Ather further declared that the brand’s community has expanded from 5,000 to over 14,500 members. Get this: Ather scooters have accomplished 40 million kilometers of organic miles saving 30 metric tons of CO2.
A sustainable ecosystem is not something Ather Energy chases on a whim, rather the brand’s approach is constructive and bilateral. Building a
vehicle and charging infrastructure platform from square one, Ather refreshingly also stayed directed on supporting the development of a local supply chain. Leadership repeats infinitely in every direction for Ather, when you note how Ather Energy has even worked to achieve 99% localization (except cells) in the vehicle, regulating with the Make in India policy. Raising the bar on high policy and governance standards in tandem with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). . If one remembers correctly back in 2015, The United Nations Member States adopted the 2030 agenda for Sustainable Development to provide peace and prosperity on the planet as a shared goal for the future.
World Mandate
The scenario looks formidable, but it is reasonable given the largely major players or public-listed companies across the oceans and that includes India. So, as laws go the mandate remains that each company must record and announce sustainability metrics. Leaders in the industry are known to approach ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) reporting as a measure to showcase their goals and strategies. Therefore sustainability reporting is fast emerging alongside impact reporting to become the most extensive reporting system. Consequently, requiring bureaucrats, conglomerates, and world leaders to be socially responsible when they sign those dotted lines.
Mobilizing A New India
At its most fundamental, Ather doesn’t fool around when it talks sustainability. At its most intrinsic Ather’s business focuses on the 4 Ps: Product, People, Planet, and Policy. Enriched by a motive of creating a Futuristic India, including the way products are being produced with better technology.
Ather presents Indian consumers with preferred choices for green mobility and world-class on-road performance. In true path-breaking style, Ather Energy’s vehicles saved 7.5 metric tons of CO2 emissions (equivalent to 15 years of riding a 125cc scooter)in 2019-2020. As of date, a mindboggling 40Mn km were ridden that saved a phenomenal 30 metric tons of CO2.
We also see that Ather Energy’s commitment to diversity and inclusion can be noted in the report. Staying true to its ethos, Ather widened its circle to embrace the diversity of thought, experience, gender, leadership, language, and culture. With approximately 30% of women that the brand has employed in its production facility, it is arguably the highest in the Indian automotive sector.
Leading the way in First Impact Reporting, Ather Energy has established extraordinary standards of policy and governance for not just itself but other automotive companies both nationally and globally. In turn, it has been a major source of contribution to United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Clear as crystal, note how Ather Energy’s ideologies and social values spread far beyond the company. Surely they are building a significant and collaborative partnership with consumers, an objective that the company embodies. Not surprising then that with a powerful, growing, active customer base, Ather has achieved an increase from 5,000 to over 14,500 members today.
The ambitious plans of Ather Energy aim to increase footfalls in 100 cities with a new product portfolio by FY2023 and also combine more safety features to the product. The features may include crash detection & SOS, tow detection, tire pressure monitoring system, remote diagnostics, etc. Looking much further ahead, by FY2022, Ather Energy proposes to establish 500 charging points around the country. The Brand is also aiming to utilize 80% of their energy consumption by using solar energy and thus improve the ratio of recycled water to total water consumption by 84%.
Quote by Tarun Mehta, Co-founder & CEO, Ather Energy:
The impact of our work through our products for the EV market is clear but building a long-term impact-focused organization is about more than a few founding product decisions. Just like financial metrics, measuring impact has to be made an institutional process, expanding far beyond just the product and covering people, planet, and policy too. Measuring and publicly sharing the same will help us create a system where long term we will be able to hold ourselves accountable to a public standard and hence constantly improve on the same. While this is just the first report, we are already seeing big leaps in the WIP report for FY21 bringing out the advantage of pushing impact as a company-wide metric.
Quote by Amit Bhatia, Founder & CEO, Aspire Impact
Ather Energy has proved to be a pioneer not just in reimagining green, sustainable mobility but also in structured, transparent impact reporting. We at Aspire Impact, India’s first Impact-Rating initiative, are delighted to award them a “Gold Leaf”, our second highest Impact Rating.
